The Frisian Urban Sanitation Programme (FUSP) has a continuous program for the training of school pupils, management and staff. After the training of the World Coaches by Prosport in March 2016 FUSP decided to organise a football tournament among six primary schools in Beira focussed on Water, Sanitation and Waste. Each school established a boy- and a girl-team of about 15 players. The teams played against each other on 6 Saturdays at different schools. To promote good hygienic manners the matches started with the cleaning of the school yard and surroundings by the pupils and the teachers. The waste was directly separated after collection. This was done in cooperation with FUSP-partner AMOR which is a Mozambican non-profit-organization specialized in the recycling of waste. The pupils separated paper, plastic, glass and organic waste in 4 different garbage cans with different colours. The FUSP schools in Beira still perform the separation of waste and AMOR is collecting this weekly for recycling. During the football tournament the importance of “washing your hands before eating” and “after going to toilet” was constantly emphasized. In the meantime the brand-new champions are very glad with their victory and their new outfit, as can be seen on the photos.
